The Real ART of Running

2018 Goal Accomplished. Now on to 2019!

2018 Weekly Run Totals
Mileage Totals for Last 6 Years

It feels great to accomplish a goal. Especially a goal that was a “stretch”. My 2018 mileage goal of 1000 miles was a stretch but in spite of some illness and injuries I was able to end the year at 1080 miles. It also felt good because that was more miles than my 2017 total of 1060. An increase of miles year-over-year is always a good year.

Not only was I able to hit my total mileage goal, I also had a good year of races. Two half-marathons plus good finishing times in several 5k and 10k races. But the highlight was competing in the Michigan Senior Olympics and placing high enough to qualify for the National Senior Games in both the 5k and 10k event.

Now it’s time to think about goals for 2019. For me, the National Senior Games is a big one. Those are in June in Albuquerque, NM, so I plan to travel and compete there. I also want to top 1000 miles again for the year and work on my speed so I can place higher in more races.

If you haven’t set goals for the year yet, don’t worry. While the new year is a great time for goal setting, you can do it any time. If something interests you or if you have a desire to learn something new or get back to an old hobby you can start any time. Like the saying goes “there’s no time like the present.”
