The Real ART of Running

Fitting Runs In Around “Life”

June was a busy month. Michigan summer really kicked in so that meant golf, walks, baseball games, day trips and exploring, attending granddaughter summer activities and more. Which is an explanation as to why I only had 12 runs in the month of June. Since I’m not training for any races, I’m not as disciplined as I was in past summers. When I was trying to place for medals I would be sure to fit in my training runs even if I had a day full of other activities. This summer I run when I have time and try not to stress when I don’t. So, in June, apparently I had time on 12 days. Not bad for a retiree.

The good news for me is that my mileage total for the month was 59 miles. That’s an average of 4.9 miles per run. If you’ve followed this blog the last year you know I was injured and rehabbing so averaging 5 miles per run is a good amount for me. I’m taking it slow and being cautious but I’m still optimistic that I can get back to 10-12 mile runs without pain. I still haven’t focused on speedwork but that will come later. For now, I’m enjoying doing easy pace runs on the mornings I have time and not worrying about pain when I’m done.

As much as I want to get back to competing for medals in local races, there’s something nice about running just to run and not focused on training and pace too much.

But I’m looking for to those days also.
