A Unique Birthday Celebration
Today is my 68th birthday. I was up in Harbor Springs, MI this week on a golf trip and didn’t have time to get a run in so I really wanted to do a good run. I’ve been doing 5 mile runs a few times a week so I decided today I would increase it and run 6.8 miles in celebration of my 68th.
Instead of just running my normal routes around our neighborhood, I wanted something different for my birthday run. The Clinton River Park Trail starting at Dodge Park in Sterling Heights and running into Utica was a perfect route. At 8:00AM it was still cool (50-ish degrees), and shaded. There were a few walkers and runners but mostly it was just me with my music. I chose a playlist I made in 2014 that had a wide variety of styles. I had totally forgotten what songs I had put on the playlist so it was fun not knowing what to expect and then recognizing each song as it started.
My pace was not fast but after a busy week, I was content to just take an easy pace and enjoy the feeling of being outside running at age 68. I don’t take it for granted and am very thankful that I’m still able to be active.
