You Think You Have It Rough?
If you think you have problems or if you’re complaining about how difficult your life is, you have to read this book. “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand is the amazing true story of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner from the 1930s and 1940s who becomes a POW in Japan in WWII. This beautifully written book begins as an interesting story of Louis beginning to find his way as a naturally gifted runner that almost threw his talent away. It then becomes a unbelievable story of how badly humans can treat each other. But it soon becomes a powerful story of how one man used his mind to overcome unthinkable horror.
As runners, we often feel we are pushing our bodies to the limit. I doubt that most of us get anywhere near the limit. I also hope I never have to go through anything remotely close to what Louis did to find the limit.
