The Real ART of Running

Watch Your Step!

Now, THAT was a little scary.  Yesterday, about 5 miles into my run, as I was cutting across the grass island between the sidewalk and the street, I tripped on a rock or something sticking out of the ground and went sprawling face-first across the ground.  As I saw the ground getting closer to my face I instantly decided it would be better to land on my shoulder and hip so I rotated to my side and crashed.  The momentum let me do a somersault/flip type of move that actually was pretty sweet.  Sort of a “stop, drop, and roll” maneuver.  Of course, the first thing I did was look around to see if anyone was watching.  Not seeing anyone, I got up, brushed myself off and kept running.  Except after the second step I could tell something wasn’t quite right.  So I turned around and headed back toward home thinking I’d have to cut the run short.  But after another minute or so I was feeling back on track so I made up a new route and did the final mile I had planned on.

Today I was slightly sore but nothing major and no broken bones so I’m very thankful for that.

The moral of the story – watch your step!
