The Real ART of Running

Thinking of Races

Sometimes it can be difficult to stay motivated in the dead of winter.  I’ve talked about staying motivated by buying some new winter running gear and that certainly helps. But, nothing is a better motivator than selecting a Spring race to run.  I just went through the race calendar on Run Michigan  and found several that I’d like to run. I always know I’ll run my standard races (Oak Apple, Volkslaufe, Kona, and a few others) but this year I plan to do a few 5k or 10k events earlier in the year. And I’m considering a Spring Half again this year. Last year I did the Red Rock Canyon Half in March in Las Vegas and it really kept my training focused in February.  This year I’m penciling in the Martian Half in April. I hear that’s a fun event.

Even if I don’t sign up for the Spring half, just thinking about it motivates me. For some people I know they need to register and pay the money to get motivated.  If that’s what you need then go for it.  Commit to the race and enjoy the winter training. Spring will be here before you know it!
