The Real ART of Running

10 Miles Backwards

Recently I ran 10 miles backwards. Okay, probably not what you think. I was facing forward but I ran my route backwards.  As I headed north up Main Street the wind was so strong I felt like I was running in place. So instead of running for miles fighting that headwind I turned and west so the wind was not directly in my face. This was exactly the reverse of my normal route but I basically zigzagged up streets so I only battled the wind in short spurts and eventually got to the point I normally turn around so now the wind was at my back pushing me toward home. Overall an enjoyable run seeing a little new scenery and much more enjoyable than miles of a headwind would have been.  Morale of the story – mix it up when you need to.
